Into Oregon, the 29th state and the people we meet along the way

Scott is off on another massive ride today, big elevation and big miles (86 miles, and over 5000 elevation is what Ride with GPS states). Yesterday the route had a "bike detour," and I had the interesting experience of “explaining” to a state trooper that yes, the Pacific Coast Bike Trail really was on the 101 freeway … . And why would they have  several "pacific coast bike trail signs" and a posted “bike detour” off 101 if 101 wasn’t the bike  route? I gave him a card and told him to get his PSA checked as early detection saves lives. He gave me a verbal warning and took my license number off the truck … I was surprised that I didn't  get an escort out of California today. This last week we were at RV Parks with very friendly people that illustrates just how many good people are out there: ·         At Anchor RV Park Tracy made us both the nicest necklaces with charms that were symbolic of the         trip.   At the next park near SF, we met a man with pros

7400 miles, 13,000 elevation gain last week, the Zero Prostate Cancer Virtual Summit, and a few words from a caregiver

Scott had an enormous week of climbing (over 13,000 elevation gain) and the most spectacular scenery between mountains and coastline of northern California. Yesterday he had what he termed a “legendary ride.”  Beautiful but extraordinarily challenging! The last few days I was able to take in the virtual prostate cancer summit presented by Zero. I always prepare before every Mayo session, through frankly I try to stay on top of it on an ongoing basis. We are fortunate as our doctor, Dr Eugene Kwon, is a great educator. He presents lectures on PRCI that are excellent. Please see this link to a recent lecture he shared on YouTube . This is one of the many things I do to try to be helpful to Scott.  With our next appointment coming up soon it was wonderful to have the benefit of the virtual conference. We are so happy that we chose Zero as the non-profit to support as they continue to do important things to support those with prostate cancer. I was recently motivated (for some unknown

7200 miles! Disaster averted: grateful for a nail in a tire

7200 miles in we have just had a long delay. I did drive, drop and pick up Scott to move forward as much as possible during this  travel trailer breakdown.  So what happened?  Leaving Santa Barbara, I noticed one of the rear travel trailer tires looked low.  It was a rainy day, we were on gravel, and it was not clear how bad the problem was.  Over the course of the day I kept  watching the tire. Getting into the Santa Maria Fairpark the manager also thought it looked low, and then noticed a nail in the tire. It was a Saturday afternoon, and all the tire places were about to close. Scott was still out on the bike, but I wanted to get the tire replaced with the spare and get the punctured tire patched up to use as a spare – or at least that was my thinking. So I headed over the with the truck and trailer to the tire place. Thankfully I saw Scott as I was leaving so he jumped in.   The folks at America’s Tires noticed the tire was very worn on the inside. They propped the RV up and to t
