Our last week! Scott is just shy of 10,000 miles

Our last week! Scott is just shy of 10,000 miles – he will finish the journey on Saturday into Itasca, somewhere between 10,000 and 11,000 miles. Very few people bike that many miles in one year. As an example, the Tour de France male riders cycle about 14,000 miles in a year, the women ride about 11,000. An “avid” cyclist rides about 3,000 -  5,000 in a year, and usually on roads or trails near home that they are accustom to. Scott is completing this ride while undergoing treatment too, for stage 4 prostate cancer. He has overcome numerous obstacles along the way. The physical and mental feat is something that is truly special and has inspired many to be more active, even with cancer, or other challenges ( with your doctor's ok!)

We were super excited to have Emmy award winning ESPN crew come out to film and interview Scott this week. Pictured above, Jeremy Schaap (television reporter, 11 time Emmy award winner for his work on E:60, SportsCenter and Outside the Lines;)  Frankie Saraceno,  (5 time Emmy award winning producer, director, documentary film maker for E:60;) Cody Shimek ( Emmy award winning director of photography Media Men, Inc.;) and Nicholas  The team clearly excel at what they do! Each one of them put much time and attention into their various jobs.  Plus we really liked them, enjoyed hanging out with them. ESPN crew  will also be out to film the final ride in at Itasca State Park, with the party on June 15th. Details on the website milesformoney.org. The party will also include a silent auction and will be loads of fun. Saturday June 22 the ESPN piece will air, and we will be sure to publish the details for all to watch. We thank ESPN for bringing national attention to Scott’s story, to prostate cancer and schizophrenia.

We also want to take today to thank all the donors and the sponsors: Rotary Club of Park Rapids, Giant Cycle, Northwoods Bank, Itascatur Outdoor Activity club, Innovative Sign & Graffix, Prudential, Tour of Minnesota, Nedia Salon, Tanner Motor, Autocraft, and Love’s Travel Stops. Special thanks to Randy Freitag, for the extraordinary match that propelled the fundraising. A list of all donors is on the website.

We want to finish strong, so we appreciate and encourage donations all the way through the event, by going to our link milesformoney.org. Each dollar matters and helps raise awareness, new treatments, education for these causes.

We also thank the dozens of volunteers that have helped with fundraising, with the website, with the blog, with media, and with the upcoming party. If we make a list, I am afraid we will miss someone!

We thank Scott’s doctors, a previous blog highlighted them all, as without them Scott would not be here and certainly would not be able to do this epic cycle trip!

We also thank our family who has also endured the sacrifice of having us gone for a year - not having this precious time with us and supporting Scott and I in our absence and in his mission. Thank you for your understanding and support. We love you all.
